The Life of Paul role-playing program happens once every four years at Richfield United Church of Christ.  It has been a tradition for our children, community and Church family since 1975.  It was originally called “Mid-Week” because it was run on a Wednesday afternoon after school.  Because of more working parents, and changes of grades and school buildings in the Revere school system, the program was moved to Sunday afternoons during Lent and renamed, “The Life of Paul.”

In this program, Paul, is played by our senior pastor.  We dress in costumes of the time, select Biblical names and form three Church communities.  Each Church is unique and they each have a special task to do.  The Church of Rome builds the catacombs.  The Church of Corinth runs a Christian Olympics.  The Church of Jerusalem plans and carries out the final

.
Pentecost Celebration, sending invitations, planning a route and location and preparing the feast.  As early Christians in the Roman Empire, we watch out for the Jailer and sometimes get arrested and sent to jail for what we believe in.  We puzzle about the Seeker, write letters of support to Paul (who is in Jail a lot), write articles for the weekly newspaper, crafts, supper and each Church closes with a worship service planned by the children.

This program runs every four years, so that all children experience it once in their Church School education, and friends are welcomed.  Many return in future years as part of the staff.

2016 Life of Paul is over, but we have many great memories.  Our thanks to all of the adult and youth staff who volunteered their time for the 4 weeks to carry on this RUCC tradition.
